About MiTransfer

History & Background

In fall 2014, Michigan community colleges and universities adopted the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) which allows students to transfer 30 credit hours of general education coursework among participating colleges and universities.

The FY 2018 state budget included a one-time appropriation to support a statewide initiative to replace the Michigan Transfer Network (MTN) and build multi-institutional associate to bachelor’s degree transfer agreements, or MiTransfer Pathways. These milestones were achieved through collaboration with Michigan colleges and universities with project activities co-led by MCCA, MASU, MICU and guided by a statewide Transfer Steering Committee.

The FY 2024 state budget similarly included a one-time appropriation and direction for the State’s new Office of Higher Education (OHE) within the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) to again collaborate with colleges and universities on transfer success improvements. A 16-member Advisory Council on Transfer Success (ACTS) guides these activities.
